The Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) is the council that works to promote health and safety within the UK’s construction industry.

The CITB Health and Safety Test provides an introduction to operating safely on a construction site. Construction workers who have cleared this test help give assurance to employers that their workforce is and can continue to be safe at work.

Having cleared this test in the past 2 years is also a requirement in order to apply for the CSCS Green Card.

CSCS stands for ‘Construction Skills Certification Scheme’.

The CSCS Authorities issue the CSCS Cards as proof that their cardholders have sufficient health and safety knowledge to perform their duties safely on construction sites.

Working without a CSCS card is not a legal requirement. However, the industry itself introduced the cards under advice from the government, which is why many construction sites and major contractors require their workforce to have a valid CSCS card on them.

The CSCS Green Labourer Card allows individuals to work on construction sites in any entry-level position, including general labouring, painting and decorating, tiling, and traffic management.

This qualification is valid indefinitely, which means you will never have to do this course again.

Passport of any nationality – Driving licence photocard of any nationality – Residence permit of any nationality – Valid EU photo ID card.

In order to apply for the CSCS Green Card, you will need to:

• Complete our Level 1 Health & Safety in a Construction Environment (L1HSCE) course. At the end of your course, Gliss Training will provide you with an E-Certificate. You will need to email a copy of your certificate to cscs@citb.co.uk.
• You must have passed the CITB Health & Safety Test for Operatives within the past two years. If you need to do the CITB test, it will cost you around £22, and you can book it directly through CITB. Have the ID number from your CITB test ready. This can be found at the top of your pass certificate.
• With the above 2 steps cleared, you can now go ahead and apply for the card by calling CSCS on 0000-000-.0000. The fee for the green card is £36.00 and the card is valid for 5 years.

This course is intended for those who wish to get a CSCS Green Labourers Card to work on a construction site as a labourer (bricklayer, carpenter, plumber, etc.).
