Personal Licence Application Process
The first stage in the personal license application procedure is to get an authorized personal licence qualification. After successfully completing the course and examination, you will need to apply for a personal license from your local authorities.
To obtain a personal licence, you must:
- To obtain a personal license, you must be at least 18 years old, have completed an official course, and have no relevant criminal convictions.
If you are seeking for a personal licence, you must present the following documents:
- a completed application form.
- Your genuine personal license qualifying certificate.
- Two passport-size pictures of yourself, one of which must be endorsed with a statement stating that it is an accurate image of you.
- A criminal record check from the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) – You’ll need to include your DBS certificate number on your application form.
- If you are successful, you will be granted a personal licence that is valid for life. You can then apply to work at any licensed establishment.
If you’re successful, you’ll be issued a personal licence which will be valid for life. You can then apply to work in any licensed premises.
What is a Designated Premises Supervisor (DPS)
Did you know that alcohol-related incidents kill around 7000 individuals in the United Kingdom each year? Responsible alcohol usage can significantly reduce this figure. To guarantee that alcohol is sold and enjoyed responsibly, the government has made it a legal requirement that the sale of alcohol be authorized by a Designated Premises Supervisor (DPS) who has received sufficient training in the responsible sale of alcohol and possesses a Personal Licence. Because all Licenced Premises must have a DPS present at all times, holding a Personal Licence will provide you with additional opportunities for work.
Do I need a personal license to sell alcohol?
Not everyone who makes a sale is required to have a Personal Licence, as long as a Personal Licence Holder has authorized the sale; however, it is advisable to have more than one Personal License Holder at any given time in case of emergency, because if a personal license holder is unavailable or becomes ill, the business will have to halt sales or, worse, face legal consequences for failing to comply with the law.
Knowingly selling alcohol without a personal license is an offense punishable by a fine of up to £20,000 and/or imprisonment for up to 6 months if convicted.
